I was painting lots of Brodie helmets (more than 300) for Sam Mendes´ 1917. I had a real one from the WW1 and I hade to replicate exactlythe same on the rubber and resin ones.
This is usually because the real ones are made of metal and they would be too heavy. Resin and rubber are much lighter and more resilience.
